On Thursday, October 2nd, Wayne County CEO students visited Jared Vaughn of Johnson & Vaughn Funeral Home in Fairfield. Jared explained that the funeral industry in the United States generates $16 billion annually, with over 70% of funeral homes being family-owned. He shared that he took over the business from his grandfather, Bob Johnson.
Jared highlighted that there are about 3 million deaths nationwide each year, while the local average is around 150. He also explained how funerals support other local businesses such as florists, vault companies, and hairdressers. Students gained insight into the costs and services offered at the funeral home, as well as the licensing expenses required for himself and his staff. Jared also shared details about his own education and training in the field.
Thank you Jared for hosting such an interesting and informative visit!
