Wayne County CEO students spent last Thursday, February 12, at Wayne-White Electric Cooperative in Fairfield learning about the organization’s history, how it was founded, and how it has grown over the past 89 years.
CEO Chris Hopfinger, Communications Director Alyssa Parrott, and Manager of Member Services Chris Simpson explained how the electric cooperative helped bring electricity to rural America and to our local community. They also shared that the cooperative is governed by an elected board of directors chosen by its membership.
Students learned that Wayne-White purchases its electricity from Hoosier Energy in Indiana and that its primary focus is customer service. The cooperative continually looks for opportunities to better serve its members through various programs and additional offerings, including propane services.
Chris concluded the visit with a tour of the facility, showing students the garages that house the repair and service trucks and explaining how inventory is stocked and managed for line repairs.
