On Monday, August 24th, Roberta “Bert” Biggs, College and Career Counselor at Fairfield Community High School, stopped by to visit with the Wayne County CEO students and share some advice on the Art and Science of Listening.
Students had the opportunity to practice their listening skills through a variety of activities led by Bert. They explored the importance of understanding not only what we say, but also how we say it.
Bert emphasized how important effective listening is in a team environment and reminded students that listening is a skill that must be practiced—just like playing an instrument or participating in a sport. We don’t necessarily listen well naturally; it is a skill that takes intentional practice and development.
She also highlighted listening as an important employability skill that is valuable in virtually any job or work environment.
We appreciate Bert taking the time to work with our students and helping them recognize the importance of becoming better listeners—both personally and professionally!
Bert is also a member of the Wayne County CEO board. We appreciate all of her time and dedication to this important program for Wayne County's high school juniors and seniors.
